Job Summary
Discover a compelling professional opportunity at Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Climate Engagement & Communications Intern supporting health system sustainability initiatives. This role contributes to amplifying climate action in healthcare through strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge mobilization.
The intern will support program visibility, engagement, and dissemination efforts across the health system. The position offers hands-on experience in communications strategy, resource development, and sustainability-focused program support.
The primary objectives of this position are to:
- Increase visibility, reach, and adoption of staff-led climate solutions in healthcare
- Strengthen staff engagement through intentional storytelling and knowledge-sharing
- Support communications and engagement efforts across initiatives
- Assist in the development of practical resources, templates, and playbooks that enable replication of successful initiatives
- Contribute to dissemination planning and cross-organizational outreach
- Provide program support to ensure the continued success and growth of sustainability initiatives
Responsibilities:
Communications & Engagement
- Support the development and implementation of communication and engagement strategies to increase program visibility and participation
- Develop written content for communications, reporting and promotional materials
- Assist in preparing dissemination materials for health authority partners and external collaborators
- Design basic graphics and visual content to support communication efforts (e.g., graphics, slide decks)
- Support knowledge mobilization efforts by helping translate sustainability initiatives into accessible and replicable resources
- Contribute to planning and promotion of engagement events, and network meetings
Program & Administrative Support
- Support meeting coordination, documentation, and follow-up actions
- Provide general administrative assistance as needed
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to support program goals
- Undertake additional tasks as required to advance sustainability and engagement priorities
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will:
- Be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in communications, public health, environmental studies, sustainability, policy, health sciences, or a related field at UBC, UVIc, UNBC or SFU
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills
- Possess research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesize information clearly
- Have experience with content development and graphic design (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite, or similar tools)
- Be comfortable using digital communication platforms (e.g., newsletters, websites, social media, virtual meeting and event platforms)
- Show strong organizational and time-management skills
- Be able to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Have interest or experience in sustainability, climate action, healthcare systems, or public sector environments
Education Requirements:
- Bachelors or Masters in a relevant field
- Must be enrolled at a PICS university (UVic, UBC, UNBC, and SFU)
