PICS Internship — Producing for the Planet

This internship is hosted by Producing for the Planet, with funding from the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions.

Description:

Producing for the Planet is seeking a Project Intern to support the build and launch phase of our National Sustainable Production Certification program. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of climate policy, sustainability standards, and Canada’s screen sector.

The intern will work closely with the Executive Director and Certification Project Manager, contributing directly to standards development, stakeholder engagement, governance design, and national launch activities. This role is ideal for a student interested in sustainability, climate
policy, certification systems, and media industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Certification materials: Contribute to the creation of launch and external and internal facing materials for the launch of a certification program for film and TV.
  • Stakeholder coordination: Organize and document working group and consultation meetings, prepare agendas, minutes, follow-ups, and insight reports.
  • Process support: Map certification workflow and test draft tools.
  • Communications: Contribute to the development of public facing web content, and training webinars.
  • Data management: Support the creation of data and data management tools.

Qualifications:

  • Must be enrolled or recently graduated from in a graduate or undergraduate program at one of the PICS partner institutions: University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, University of Victoria, or University of Northern British Columbia
  • Background or coursework in environmental studies, sustainability, film/media studies, or a related field.

Work or academic experience:

  • Using international frameworks such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocols
  • Research and data collection, and translating it into meaningful report insights
  • Topical subject-matter research and content writing (for reports, websites, articles, social posts) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of climate change issues & impacts in BC and Canada

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Canadian and international carbon reporting and sustainability frameworks (i.e.: GHG protocol, ISO, etc).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare clear documents, notes, and outreach materials in English.
  • Familiarity using common digital tools such as Google Suite, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Zoom, email. Experience with Jotform, Eventbrite, and Mailchimp are assets
  • An interest in learning about certification and accreditation processes in the film & TV sector.
  • Ability to be self-directed and manage time effectively and deliver to deadlines.
  • Experience and comfort working remotely.
  • Ability to process large amounts of information and effectively summarize this information
