Speaker: Judith Sayers, indigenous leader, Chancellor of Vancouver Island University, President of Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council

Biography:

Dr. Judith Sayers is President of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth Tribal Council and a respected leader in Indigenous economic development and clean energy. An adjunct professor at the University of Victoria, she brings over two decades of experience advancing sustainable energy projects, beginning with the groundbreaking China Creek run-of-river initiative led by her First Nation. A former Chief of the Hupacasath First Nation for 14 years, Dr. Sayers has played a pivotal role in fostering partnerships, shaping policy, and creating opportunities for Indigenous communities. Recognized nationally, she is a recipient of the Order of Canada and numerous clean energy honors, and continues to champion First Nations leadership in business, environmental stewardship, and economic reconciliation.
